Of all the questions you will ask yourself in life, probably the most important is, Am I good enough to go to Heaven? Here is a story I want to share briefly. During my years in high school, I already had my own morals. I was a good kid, in my opinion. I knew what the bad stuff was such as drinking, smoking, and trouble making. I knew some commandments too and sometimes followed by it. I thought that as long as I was the doing right things I would go to heaven.

In high school one or two of my friends would talk about God, but I wouldn’t listen because I didn’t like going to church and following certain rules and guidelines. I mean why waste your time on something that wasn’t physically there? I grew up with a scientific background and science couldn’t prove God existed. However during my first year at university I met this person who didn’t talk about God or Christianity. I only knew him for a week before Christmas holidays. At the beginning of the year, my friend invited me to church because the sermon was on science vs. religion. That Sunday morning I accepted Christ into my life, however I was still skeptical and thought my life would change all of the sudden. I went to church for a while but it just didn’t seem right. I wasn’t comfortable there. I didn’t let God control my life.

I stopped going to church for a while, by the end of the second semester my high school friend called me up and we talked for a bit. He too became a Christian. I remember him saying that I had to build a relationship with God and not solely rely on others for help. These friends were very important during my early walk with God and they reassured me and gave me a lot of advice. I started going to more church events like Praise and Worship and Bible Study. During those times I would learn something valuable and apply it to my life.

Are you righteous enough for heaven? It’s only through God’s grace that we receive eternal life and not by doing good works. (For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast Ephesians 2:21)

Do you want to go to heaven and personally know God? Here’s how:

1) God loves you and created you to know Him personally. (John 3:16) and (John 17:3)

2) We must acknowledge that we are sinners. (Romans 3:23)

3) Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love. (Romans 5:8) and (John 14:6)

4) We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 1:12)

God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I want you in my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”

Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If it does, pray this prayer right now, and Christ will come into your life, as He promised.

Thank God often that Christ is in your life and that He WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU (Hebrews 13:5). You can know on the basis of His promise that Christ lives in you and that you have eternal life from the very moment you invite Him in.
